Two cases of radiation-induced cutaneous angiosarcoma

چکیده
We report two cases of radiation-induced cutaneous angiosarcoma that occurred years after radiotherapy for pelvic cancer. The tumors in both cases were inoperable because of the poor performance status of the patient or the extent of the lesion. We treated the tumors with concurrent chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The chemotherapy consisted of the weekly administration of 70 mg/m paclitaxel. Both patients received radiotherapy at the prescribed dose of 50 Gy in 2.0-Gy fractions. Two months after the treatment, the lesions of both cases diminished or disappeared. However, a few months after the treatment, both patients suffered from in-field local recurrence and distant metastases, and they subsequently died of their distant metastases. The initial responses of two cases to concurrent chemoradiotherapy were good, and their quality of life was improved without severe complication. Although the long-term control of radiation-induced cutaneous angiosarcoma was difficult, chemoradiotherapy was one of the safe and effective palliative treatments.

Post-irradiation cutaneous angiosarcoma
Angiosarcoma is a rare and highly malignant tumor with potential to recur despite treatment, and carries a poor prognosis. Previous radiation therapy and lymphedema are some of the known risk factors. We present a case of cutaneous angiosarcoma which occurred at lumpectomy site in a patient with a history of breast cancer and radiation to the breast. The tumor kept on recurring repetitively des...

BACKGROUND Laryngeal angiosarcoma is rare and the prognosis is poor. The purpose of this study was to describe the first case of cutaneous angiosarcoma metastatic to the larynx and systematically review all cases of laryngeal angiosarcoma. METHODS A 61-year-old man presented with an alar lesion diagnosed as angiosarcoma and was treated with wide local resection and radiation. Six years later,...

Cutaneous angiosarcomas of the head and neck are aggressive cancers with a mean overall survival of 30 months. We add to the literature a case report of a 65-year-old man with a large, >10 cm, unresectable, angiosarcoma of the scalp who was treated with two cycles of liposomal doxorubicin (Caelyx(R)) followed by electron beam radiation therapy (30 Gy in 10 fractions over 2 weeks) who has sustai...

Angiosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor with an aggressive clinical course and a poor prognosis. Intraperitoneal angiosarcoma, especially originating from the omentum, is extremely rare. We report a case of radiation-induced angiosarcoma of the omentum that arose in a 38-year-old female seven years after concurrent chemoradiotherapy for cervical cancer. The primary tumor was unknown until diagno...
متن کاملComparison of COX2 expression in radiation induced basal cell carcinoma and non-radiation induced basal cell carcinoma
Background: Radiation-induced basal cell carcinoma (BCC) can be multiple, large, and recurring, which complicates its treatment in some cases. According to reports on the role of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2) inhibitors in the treatment or prevention of non-melanoma skin cancers and considering the fact that COX2 expression has not been evaluated in radiation-in...
